These pictures are from my birthday a few days ago. Just so you know, I would like to be wearing fabulous shoes. God knows I have enough of them. But when it's slushy and shitty out, a girl must be smart. And I mean, I suppose I could have dressed a little more birthday fab than this. But I needed a versatile outfit for the day's events, which consisted of quite the variety of things, including a little wine and climb*.

One thing I hate is how much birthdays and other holidays (because after all, my birthday should be a national holiday) revolve around food. Don't get me wrong, I love food, but fuck man. Just because it's March 6th and I was born on this day 22 years ago doesn't necessarily mean I want to stuff myself silly with cake. I don't even like cake that much (at least not of the baked variety...cake batter? Whole 'nother story). So instead of revolving my day around food, I chose to focus on a physical activity (rock wall climbing). And instead of cake, we picked up a few lighter chocolately treats. It was a nice change.

I'm on a health kick, can you tell?

In other news, it's snowing, I'm crying, and I'm off to Arizona in two weeks. CANNOT WAIT.

* That is not me, for the record.

I hope you had an amazing birthday. Glad you got your card. And rock climbing sounds awesome.
ps. I also don't love cake that much. I'd rather have a cookie. Or coldstone.

  2. Love that Topshop coat over the plaid shirt and tee. So elegant meets grunge. It's perfect.

ARIZONA!! So looking forward to this trip. Even though Ian and I are there for only 3 days, it's still always great fun. This time will be like the BIGGEST of all fun times however. I wonder why...cuz I will meet you! lalalalalalala

  3. Talk about food - trying having your birthday over Thankssgiving - there is just no avoiding overeating at that time of the year, it is so hard! I'm right there with you on not loving cake - though I do like cupcakes on occasion, especially baking them, but anyway, your chocolate goodies look delightful. I'll be enjoying the sites of Canal Park right about the time you leave for Arizona! And I triple love your plaid shirt. Ok enough book writing here. :)

  4. Sounds like you had a great birthday!! I too hate how holidays always revolve food...just because we are celebrating it does not mean we cannot eat healthy. That jacket is fabulous and i love how you style it with a casual outfit!

  15. Well you don't need to dress like a princess or eat a huge piece of cake on your birthday if you don't want to! hehe as long as you had fun that is the most important thing!

  16. I was notorious as a kid for loving the shit out of cake. I'd always order it at restaurants when I was, like, five or seven years old, and that was when everyone else was ordering dinner. I still have to hear about it all these years later at rare family gatherings.

Hope you had a good birthday. I STILL need to return your email. I fail.

  17. I think you look nice in your birthday suit. I tend to wear heels even if its shitty out which usually results in many bruises. You would think I would have learned my lesson by now but no.

  18. I hope you had an amazing birthday lady! I am so with you on the whole cake issue, I really don't see the point in baking a cake... just mix the ingredients together and eat!

  32. I totally agree that cake and cake batter are on two separate levels -- the same goes for brownies and brownie batter. Ohhhhh, buddy. Don't even put brownie batter in front of me.
I am well-known for carrying two pairs of shoes with me at all times -- one pair that is totally fabulous and one pair of tennis shoes or beaten-up ballet flats. You never know when crappy weather will strike.

  38. Cake is not all it's cracked up to be. Mind you, I do love icing. Our birthdays seem to be an even mix between food and alcohol, which inevitably leads to what we refer to as a 'fooze' coma (not me, of course!).

Your shoes are cute, and it's much better to be safe than sorry (speaking from experience- a year and a half, some surgery and a black ankle later!)

It sounds like you had an eventful birthday, lovely! And I'm glad you're looking forward to your trip. Don't cry though. xx
