Sweater (Dress) Weather

I got this sweater dress on super-clearance last year after winter was already over, so I hadn't worn it up until now since it is, most obviously, a winter-type. It's challenging to style so I took the challenge out of it and just wore it all plain-like. And you know what? There's nothing wrong with that.

How would you style this dress?

Well, it's Monday, which means back to work for this girl. Back to reality. Oh wellz. Besides work (and school...goddamnit, school. I almost forgot about you), I'm really excited for the next few months. The winter has been so mild here, I'm actually enjoying the season for the first time in my life. January and February should be a piece of cake if this keeps up, and then it's March and I'm off to Arizona. I love Arizona so much, I'm giddy months in advance just anticipating my time there. Squee. Cannot. Wait.

P.S. I think it was at least 40°F the day I wore this, so having bare legs is perfectly acceptable.

P.P.S. What's with all the optimism in this post? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH THE REAL ASHLEY???

Dress: ModCloth
Boots: Steve Madden
Clutch: Fossil
Earrings: Vintage, available at my shop

  6. This is a great dress and how you styled it looks just fine. 40 degrees and no tights though? Girl, you have a body of steel!

We both decided that we would also style the dress with a low slung belt, leggings, and boots. Oh, and your cute beanie/beret hat :)

  7. 40 degrees and bare legs?! GURL you are cray-cray. But at least you look ~fabulous~~ but really you do. I love the pattern on that top.

I would probably wear it with some red tights and ankle booties and a jacket of some sort. I'm so specific wow. xD

  8. I can barely stand bare legs in 50 degrees, haha! I guess you're used to frigid weather. Arizona sounds really lovely, and warm! I've never been, but I really hope to go sometime in the future. I've never been one for the "sweater dress" thing, but I really love this one! I don't think I would be able to pull it off, but you sure do! Thanks for all your sweet tweets and comments on my blog. I really appreciate it! :)

  18. Sometimes you just have to let a sweater dress be a sweater dress right? PS I like optimistic Ashley, but wise ass Ashley is my fave :)

  19. The dress by itself is perfectly fine! And I like how you put sock underneath your boots, I love that style.

So you asked what books I read over the holidays. Don't laugh but I like biographies so I read Kara Dioguardia's (she was the 4th judge on American Idol) and Cheryl Burke's book called "Dancing Lessons". Cheryl Burke is dancer on "Dancing With the Stars." Do you think I watch too much reality T.V.?? ; ) Now I'm reading Ellen's new book called "Seriously...I'm Kidding." It's funny....seriously.

  22. I think it's great that you styled the dress simply; it deserves to be the star of the outfit because it's super cute! Oh, and you're coming to Arizona! I do hope you enjoy it here! Maybe we'll run into each other! Probably not. I guess Arizona isn't that tiny. I remember the last time I wanted to run into someone and it didn't happen. It was Thanksgiving and I was going to Utah to the same town where my freshman algebra teacher moved to. He was beautiful, despite his balding head. Such gorgeous eyes! Oh, goodness, don't even get me started on him. Anyway, I didn't see him. Why am I telling you this again?

  25. I love this dress Ashley! And I would not be able to handle bare legs in that weather! But I do live in Florida....

  26. I love that you are going bare legged in 40° - you are awesome.

Sometimes it's good just to go all plain-like, but this dress might also be fun with a fur vest and a coat layered up.

  30. Oh, I love it plain! It's beautiful. I'd probably add some red tights to jazz it up a bit, but that's just me being all colorful because I can't do much without adding color. lol

  31. I love the way you kept this dress simple. It lets the design of the dress stand out on its own. The boots with the socks peeking out the top is a great touch. I have always loved this look. And you know how much I loved your long hair, right? (Read: Obsession) I love your short hair even more, I think. Pretty sure it is impossible for you to look anything but drop.dead.effing.gorgeous.

  32. I like optimist Ashley as well as sullen Ashley. They are both adorable in my eyes.

I love how you styled this dress. I would wear it with skinny jeans and a leather jacket with over the knee or knee high boots.

Let me know when you will be in AZ. We still haven't planned our trip.

  35. I love positive Ashley! ;)
I can't believe but we still haven't had our first real snow. That rain snow mix doesn't count. So, I'm enjoying this winter too!

  36. I would have styled it the same way. TBH, I style everything pretty simply. I definitely think this particular garment doesn't need much else given what cool patterns it boasts!

  37. I was ready to start this comment with ':O :O :O!!! bare legs' but then I saw your P.S lol. Love this sweater jumper though, it's really pretty. It's nice that you have something to look forward to, it gets you through the rubbish stuff (school/work)
