American Apparel fans, what's your secret? Most everything I buy there either ends up being returned or hanging in the back of my closet. This double u-neck dress is no exception. I've been avoiding it ever since I bought it because it shows every little thang and then some. It's another case of a faux fupa (with an extra helping of faux lovehandles). I had an a-ha! moment (which probably came to me when I was viewing this blog, as she did the same thing with her dress, except she totally pulls it off better than me, most likely because she doesn't have tits the size of large cantaloupes like moi) and thought I'd outsmart it by putting on a skirt, since the top half isn't quite as bad. It worked well enough, except for the fact that it made my boobs look like I could use them as a tray to serve drinks on at a dive bar. Therefore, I'm going to be a pansy and not post any front views of this outfit. Look at my shoes and sunglasses instead, because they are lovely.
Tell me: do you own anything from American Apparel? What are your thoughts?
U-neck dress: American Apparel
Skirt: Urban Outfitters
Clutch: Steven by Steve Madden
Sunnies: Gucci
Stilettos: Giuseppe Zanotti
Ha ha, your post had me laughing. I don't own ANYTHING AA, is that weird? I've gone in there a few times but every time I come out with nothing. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough? I don't know...I think the tight clothes make me a bit nervous! You can't see the front of your dress but from what I can see in the back it looks great on you!
ReplyDeleteHa, you make me laugh.
ReplyDeleteI don't own anything AA but I have went in the store on occasion. I have a larger chest, too, but whenever I look at their dresses, I can't imagine I'd be able to get even the largest size they have over my ass. So, needless to say, I leave empty handed. Even when I do find body con dresses at other stores, I only have like two inches of material below my butt and while it may look good standing still, I can't imagine the horror that would happen when I walked.
Good solution with the skirt though! I love the whole thing--don't be afraid to show the front :)
I actually have the u-neck dress from AA as well, and I absolutely agree with you. That little thing is completely unforgiving. It's still hanging in the back of my closet, but I just can't bare to throw it away (I have attachment problems with my clothes). But your attempt to combat this unforgiving, clinging dress isn't bad! From the side it looks lovely, especially with your skirt; I'm sure the front can't be that terrible.

I think that looks really cute! I'm sure the front doesn't look as bad as you think :p

I think this outfit looks great on you!!
ReplyDeleteI only own one black tee made from AA. It fits like a dream, but your right, every thang will be shown.

You make a valid point, buddy. The only thing I ever bought at AA (a knit-top) turned out to be completely unsuitable because of the odd way it was cut. That experience turned me off the store.
ReplyDeleteThen I read about how AA ripped off Woody Allen (by using his image on a billboard without permission) and, in litigation over it, AA behaved atrociously (by smearing Woody). Not a company I want to support.
I like the stuff American Apparel comes out with but I never buy anything because of the outrageous prices. I wanted a black mesh bodysuit one time that served no purpose whatsoever outside of the bedroom. I mentioned this and the salesgirl seemed offended. Unfortunately, most of the clothing from American Apparel seems to serve the sole purpose of being layered until you see just a peak of the fabric. Thus, you pay about $40 for a piece of material that you display about 1/5 of.
ReplyDeleteYou look totally stunning. Loving those shoes and your super cute blog, too.
